The survey, encompassing responses from across 48 states and the District of Columbia, reveals a disturbing rise in violence over the past year, with significant data pointing towards a staffing crisis exacerbated by ineffective prevention strategies. Notably, 45.5% reported seeing an increase in workplace violence and 81.6% reported experiencing it personally. This underscores the need for immediate action and implementation of more robust prevention plans.
American Hospital Association Calls for Legislative Action
Just days ago, Rick Pollack, President and CEO of the AHA, highlighted the critical need to protect healthcare workers from the increasing threats and violence they face daily. Health care professionals, as noted, are five times more likely to experience workplace violence compared to other fields. The AHA is rallying for the passage of the Safety from Violence for Healthcare Employees (SAVE) Act, a piece of legislation aimed at extending federal protections to healthcare workers, akin to those provided to aircraft and airport personnel.
