Mr. Yongda Huang Harris, 28, a resident of Boston and a naturalized American citizen, was detained by federal authorities on Friday at LAX airport in Los Angeles on a charge of transporting hazardous materials. Mr. Harris arrived on a flight from Tokyo, wearing a flak jacket and flame retardant pants. A search of Mr Harris’ checked luggage revealed a smoke grenade, along with a hatchet, knives, other weapons, a gas mask, biohazard suits and body bags.

Mr. Erroll G. Southers, TAL Global’s Managing Director, Counter-Terrorism & Infrastructure Protection Division, was interviewed on NBC News, where he raised some issues that ought to be explored in connection with this event in particular and aviation security in general.
