Suspected Al-Shabaab Attack in Kenya – 48 Reported Dead

Kenya Map - MpeketoniSuspected Al-Shabaab gunmen opened fire on passer-by’s and set fire to two boarding houses in the Kenyan coastal town of Mpeketoni, near the tourist center of Lamu, reportedly killing 48 people and wounding many others.

This is the latest in a series of Al Shabaab terror attacks on Kenya, starting in 2011, and culminating with with an Al Shabaab attack on a central Nairobi shopping center, in September 2013, which resulted in 76 dead and scores of wounded. Last month, suspected Al Shabaab terrorists detonated a bomb on a public minibus in the Gikomba market area, resulting 48in 10 dead and 76 wounded.

Two suspects were reportedly detained by the Kenyan police in connection with the latest attack.
