Yet again, on Monday, June 5, 2017, a fired employee returned to his former workplace, entered through the back door and murdered five of his former colleagues and managers.
Experts call this violent event: “…the latest in a growing trend of workplace violence.” The statistics back this determination. According to an article in the Orlando Sentinel, “there were 417 homicides at workplaces across the country in 2015. Three hundred fifty-four of those were shootings, a 15 percent increase from the previous year.”
Mr. Oscar Villanueva, TAL Global’s Chief Operating Officer, and a workplace violence expert, said in the newspaper interview: “When a business terminates an employee, they need to do a threat assessment. If they have a past history of bullying or violence, that’s a warning.”
