Ten Security Tips for Executives and Their Families This July 4th Weekend:

1.    Be aware of your surroundings. This is especially important in crowded areas, such as fireworks displays or other public events. If you see anything suspicious, report it to security or law enforcement.

2.    Do not share personal information with strangers. This includes your name, address, phone number, or any other information that could be used to identify you or your family.

3.    Be cautious about accepting gifts or drinks from strangers. These could be laced with drugs or other substances that could make you vulnerable to attack.

4.    If you are attending a public event, travel with a group. This will make you less of a target for criminals.

5.    If you are driving, be aware of your surroundings and take extra precautions to avoid accidents. This includes driving sober, staying alert, and avoiding distractions. If you are concerned about your security, consider hiring a security guard to provide additional protection.

6.    If at home this weekend, use July 4th to update your computer passwords. They should be twelve characters long and do not reuse the same password twice.

7.    If you have taken your family to the beach, ensure they know about “rip currents.” Rip currents pull swimmers out to sea. Stay safe by swimming only in designated swimming areas.

8.    Make sure your office knows where you are always. Carry your cell phone wherever you go.

9.    Don’t let your guard down – keep your guard up.

10. No matter what your plans for the Fourth of July, corporate executives – and everyone – must always be aware of the risks. Take steps now to stay safe. That way you can enjoy this Fourth of July holiday weekend.
