workplace violenceYet again, on Monday, June 5, 2017, a fired employee returned to his former workplace, entered through the back door and murdered five of his former colleagues and managers.

Experts call this violent event: “…the latest in a growing trend of workplace violence.” The statistics back this determination. According to an article in the Orlando Sentinel[1], “there were 417 homicides at workplaces across the country in 2015. Three hundred fifty-four of those were shootings, a 15 percent increase from the previous year.”

Mr. Oscar Villanueva, TAL Global’s Chief Operating Officer, and a workplace violence expert, said in the newspaper interview: “When a business terminates an employee, they need to do a threat assessment. If they have a past history of bullying or violence, that’s a warning.”
